EQAO Information

EQAO assesses how well Ontario’s public education system is developing students’ reading, writing and math skills. EQAO provides reliable and useful information that is used to help improve student achievement and ensure the accountability of school boards.


The Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

  • The OSSLT evaluates the literacy skills students are expected to have learned across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9, according to The Ontario Curriculum.

  • Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test will take place Thursday, April 8, 2021.

Graduating Students:


The literacy graduation requirement will be waived for all students graduating during the 2020-21 school year and all students who have graduated and returned for a fifth year.



Non-Graduating Students: (Current Grade 10 and 11 students)


The ministry is continuing to explore a field test of the online OSSLT in Spring 2021, which could allow the opportunity for non-graduating students to write the test and have successful attempts counted on their transcript.

The Grade 9 Online Math Assessment

  • The Grade 9 math assessment evaluates the math skills that students are expected to have learned by the end of Grade 9, according to The Ontario Curriculum.

  • Assessment window runs from January 11 - February 5, 2021.
